Requirements Your specific requirements will, of course, depend on your business plan, location, and other factors. Let us help you design your installation! In general, you will need the following. One or more gateways and inbound telephone lines To determine how many gateways you need in a given location, estimate how many concurrent (simultaneous) calls you expect to have. That number is the number of ports you need in your gateway and the number of telephone lines you will need to acquire from your local telephone service provider. Note that telephone lines are not necessarily required if you plan to operate a calling shop or cafe. Note that gateways are available that support both analog and digital (E1 or PRI) lines. Also, if you are located in the U.S., you may be able to use our gateways and phone lines. Please contact us. We support Cisco, Quintum and many other H.323 and SIP gateways. We also sell Quintum gateways, but you do not need to buy your gateway(s) from us to use our network. A router Unless the IP connection you plan to use will be dedicated only to the gateway(s), you will need a router. Generally, a Cisco 17XX or better works well. An IP connection Our preferred codec is G.729, because we believe that it is the best combination of quality and economy. The "payload" of a G.729 call is about 8 kbps. However, headers and footers add from 12 to 16 kbps, for a total of 20 to 24 kbps per call. Gatekeeper/Proxy If you plan to have gateways at three sites or more, you will also need a gatekeeper/proxy. Ask us to help in planning a gatekeeper/proxy installation. Back to the Previous Page
